How to Participate in Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo

Stage 1 Instructions

Stage 1 is a non-competitive jam stage running from 17-26 January. Teams are encouraged to explore creative and innovative ways that they can address their topic of disinformation through their games.

Jam & Upload Your Game

For Global Game Jam Participants

  • Create your game as part of the GGJ event.
  • Use the Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo diversifier during game creation.
  • Make sure to tag your game with the diversifier when uploading to the GGJ platform.
  • You do not need to register at a Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo site if you’re already registered at a GGJ site.

For those who are not taking part in the official Global Game Jam event

  • Select any two-day window between January 17–26, 2025 to get started.
  • Register on the Global Game Jam site as participant at the virtual only Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo Global Game Jam site for your country so that you can access the submission portal.
  • Games will be submitted via the Global Game Jam submission platform.
  • Make sure to tag your game with the diversifier when uploading to the GGJ platform.

Tagging a Diversifier

  • When you are uploading your game to the Global Game Jam platform, you will need to make sure you tag your game with the Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo (United with Ukraine Game Jam) diversifier.
  • To do this, select the drop down that says “Game Diversifiers.”
  • Check the box next to Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo (United with Ukraine Game Jam).
  • Your game must be uploaded to the Global Game Jam and tagged with Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo diversifier to eligible for the competition stage.

Next Stages Overview

Stage 2

The two-week hackathon period will begin immediately following the jam window, starting on 27 January. During these two weeks, GGJ will host mentor office hours, offer additional workshops and expand the educational resource library. 
Participants from Stage 1 will receive an email with the sessions scheduled for Stage 2 by 28 January. This schedule will also be posted on the Ctrl+Alt+Disinfo website. 


During the two-week hackathon, 27 January – 9 February 2025, teams should expand upon or rework their Stage 1 game. Note: Jammers who did not participate in Stage 1 are still eligible to participate in Stage 2. For global jammers, Stage 2 will not be a competitive stage, but teams that submit games will receive feedback on their games to help strengthen their Stage 3 submission. 


Teams should upload their two-week game to the Global Game Jam Portal no later than 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8) on 9 February.

Teams will receive additional instructions on submitting their Stage 2 build and around Stage 3 in early February. All information will also be posted on the unitedwithukraine.games and easily accessible through the homepage. 


There will be a one-week review phase between Stage 2 and 3.

Stage 3

Starts on 10 February. The two-month hackathon will run from 10 February – 19 April 2025. Teams will design, develop, iterate and refine their games to submit as part of the global competition. At the end of Stage 3, teams will submit their final games, a trailer and a business/sustainability plan.

Teams should upload their two-month game to the Global Game Jam Portal no later than 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8) on 9 April.

Teams will receive additional instructions on submitting to Stage 3 following Stage 2. All information will also be posted on the unitedwithukraine.games and easily accessible through the homepage.
